Seating chart maker with groups, table constraints and catering exports
Turn a real guest list into a table plan you can check, revise and hand over. Keep the constraints clear and the final documents consistent.
Event Seating Studio
The example seats 12 guests at three tables with family groups, together links and apart rules. Try moving a full group, changing a table capacity and preparing the venue brief.
Supported scope: Up to 200 guests, 40 tables, 30 entered places per table and 400 pair rules. UTF-8 guest CSV or project JSON up to 1 MiB. Search budget: 40,000 nodes or approximately three seconds. Table-level assignments only; no numbered chairs, RSVP collection, shared live links, scaled floor plan, automatic file syncing or venue safety approval. Printing uses a real HTML brief and your browser’s print/PDF options.

Does it automatically seat guests without breaking the rules?
A complete result is checked against table capacities, together groups, apart rules and locked assignments. The search is bounded, so it can also report a budget limit without finding a complete plan. That result does not prove that the rules are impossible and does not change your existing arrangement. The tool does not infer personal preferences you have not entered.
How do groups and together rules interact?
When keeping groups together is enabled, matching non-empty group labels link their guests. Explicit together rules add more links, including across named groups. These links are transitive: if A is together with B and B with C, all three need one table. An apart rule inside that combined group is a contradiction that must be changed.
Can I make a manual adjustment or preserve a VIP table?
Yes. Select a table for a guest to move their entire together group. A move that exceeds capacity or violates an apart rule is rejected. Lock a fully assigned group to preserve its table during generation. Unlock it before moving it. Undo restores up to 12 recent project states in the current workspace.
What is included in the venue and catering downloads?
The venue CSV and printable HTML brief contain names and table assignments. Catering exports separately contain guest meal preferences, private notes and meal counts by table. The SVG is a schematic table layout. Project JSON retains the exact editable state, including rules, locks and notes. Formula-like text is protected in CSV; exact strings remain in JSON.
Is the layout a measured room or a numbered-seat plan?
No. The positions are a schematic, and each assignment is to a table. Table capacities are entered by you. Confirm actual table sizes, circulation, accessibility and permitted occupancy with the venue. Changing a capacity below its assigned headcount creates a visible issue rather than silently moving guests.
Are the guest details saved or shared online?
This tool processes files locally and does not automatically save the project. Download JSON before closing and import it to continue later. There is no account, live sharing link or RSVP backend. Keep downloaded files in an appropriate location and share the catering files only with the people who need their private notes.
Sources & assumptions
Formats, algorithms and supported features are documented below. Check the stated scope and inspect your output before using it.
- RFC 4180: comma-separated fields ↗
CSV exports quote fields and double embedded quotes. Imports accept UTF-8 with CRLF or LF line endings.
- MDN: SVG vector graphics ↗
The table diagram exports as real SVG with local shapes and text, without remote assets.
- MDN: printing web documents ↗
The venue brief includes print styling; the browser controls available paper and PDF destinations.
- MDN: local object URLs ↗
Downloads are generated from local data and their temporary object URLs are released when the workspace changes or closes.
